The Next Two Months
A Message from Neil
I want to share some good news with you today. I have been working with the elders over the past couple of months on creating and implementing a sabbatical policy for our ministry team. We feel like offering a sabbatical to those who serve in full-time ministry in our church family is an important step toward helping our ministry leaders be whole, healthy leaders, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Ultimately, this is good for the church and for our ministers. We will be fine-tuning our policy in the weeks ahead but we are eager to bless Michael with the opportunity to have six weeks away this fall for personal renewal, reflection, and refreshment. Basically, our policy will be to bless our full-time ministers with a six week sabbatical every seven years. Michael has served faithfully for over seven years as our youth minister and has been a great blessing to our UY students and families. We are excited to give this gift to him and hope it will bless him for years to come.I understand that the concept of a sabbatical may be new. But, please understand that this is not code for “something’s wrong.” In fact, the opposite is true. We love Michael, are thankful for his service, and are thrilled to be able to minister to him in this way.Michael’s six weeks away will begin the week of October 12. You will be hearing more in the near future about making plans to cover Michael’s responsibilities during his sabbatical. For now, let’s all start preparing to pray for Michael regularly. I will be praying for God to use this time to renew Michael’s spirit for continued service in the kingdom of God.
